i was on hand yesterday for the unearthing of a new thomas sayre earthcastings sculpture at a private residence in north raleigh.it was, as jim melnyk, the co-rector at st. mark's episcopal church and one of 30 or so spectators on the scene, best described it as; "resurrection like."
two 30-foot long bowl shaped towers of cement and earth "cooked" and took shape underground for a month before being born into the open air with the help of an industrial crane.
soon to be set in a foundation of concrete they'll stand aloft casting shadows and inquisitive interpretation until their next reincarnation.
